Nature recognizes Paula Mayorga-Burrezo’s breakthroughs in nanomedicine

Nature Portfolio has recently published an article celebrating the achievements of four researchers from the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC). Among them is Paula Mayorga-Burrezo, a researcher at the Nanomol-bio group and member of CIBER-BBN, recognized for her outstanding contributions to the development of advanced materials for health applications.
In particular, the article highlights Paula's research on photocatalytic nanozymes for cancer treatment — innovative nanomaterials designed to mimic natural enzymes and enhance therapies against cancer through light-driven catalytic activity. Her work aims to create more efficient and targeted therapeutic strategies, paving the way for new advances in nanomedicine.
The feature also recalls that in 2024, Paula was awarded the prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Prize in Spain, acknowledging not only her scientific excellence but also her commitment to promoting the role of women in research.
This recognition from Nature underscores the high level of talent and innovation emerging from ICMAB-CSIC and the Nanomol-bio group, committed to translating frontier research into real-world health solutions.
